Rubicon offers three strategic levels of recovery in the event of a major disaster.

The first and simplest level is to have a cold swap server built ready for connection to the network, which requires the last backup tape restoring onto it.  This server would normally be located off the network, and normally off site.

The second level (warm swap) has a server connected on the network, and at regular intervals during the day, a snapshot copy of the live data is copied to the backup server.

The highest level has an online server which is replicating the transactional data in real-time.  This utilises the Rubicon Data Replication Engine to accomplish this.  Other background routines can also be used to complement the real-time replication to transfer across other system settings such as user accounts, print queue configurations, and software.  In the event of a disaster that requires switching to the backup server, it simply needs its IP address changed.
